What's the Deal with Diesel Prices?

February 18, 2008. On Rudolf Diesel's birthday, we celebrate the innovations that he brought to the evolution of combustion. What a really amazing, efficient machine the Diesel engine is! And Rudolf envisioned his engine as a way for the common person to get power in a world dominated by large, expensive, polluting steam engines. So here we are.

The price of diesel fuel in Greenfield is $4.25 today! If you're looking for a bargain, go to the Pride station on King Street in Northampton. A steal at $3.99/gallon. Why such a difference? For that matter, why is diesel so much more expensive than gasoline?
Biodiesel too?

One more reason to love waste vegetable oil: So far, it's out of the reaches of the volatile commodities market. If you're willing to clean some WVO, you can drive for free.
